Congress Will Not Regulate AI Without New LeadershipDecember 30, 2025
During a recent appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, Senator Bernie Sanders was asked if Congress would take any "significant action" on AI. His answer was blunt: "I don't know." AI is the most consequential technological development in human history, yet our leaders admit they are paralyzed. This happens when we elect establishment politicians who don't understand the technologies shaping our world. For decades, we’ve let Big Tech write its own rules, prioritizing profits over benefits to society. We cannot afford to repeat that mistake with AI. Jake Tapper spent the entire show focused on AI, interviewing politicians, business leaders and academics. This mirrors a similar move by Ali Velshi on his own program just a few weeks ago. This shows that AI has officially moved from a tech-world curiosity to the center of our daily lives. When veteran anchors like Jake Tapper and Ali Velshi start dedicating entire shows to the topic, it’s a clear signal: this isn't just for Silicon Valley anymore. It’s a national conversation that hits home for everyone. The "future" we’ve been hearing about for years is actually happening right now. It is actively reshaping our jobs, our security, and our economy, and it’s time we start treating it with that level of urgency. For over 25 years I've worked as a computer scientist, 15 of them working directly with AI, building everything from enterprise tools to cryptocurrencies to healthcare systems. I am a supporter of innovation, but I also know the risks these technologies bring. I made the decision to enter politics because I recognize the need for scientists and technologists in Congress to ensure these tools serve the people, not just tech CEO's and shareholders. Our window to get ahead of this technology is closing. I’m running for Congress because we need capable, knowledgeable leadership to navigate an AI-powered society before it's too late. It’s time to put an expert in the room. A Close to 2025 and What's In Store for 2026As we wrap up 2025, I’m reflecting on the thousands of conversations I’ve had with folks across the district. Meeting you as we canvassed, visited community events, or tabled at block parties and street fairs has been the highlight of my year. Your stories and concerns are exactly what drives me and this campaign. 2026 is going to be a defining year for our community and our country. With the midterm elections in May, the stakes are enormous as our country and our world changes. I’m heading into the new year more energized than ever to listen to your voices and fight for the policies that move us forward. Thank you for an incredible year. I can’t wait for what we'll achieve together in 2026! |
