Congress Must Provide OversightSeptember 15, 2025
Artificial Intelligence Q&AThe New York Times has published a very informative Q&A covering questions regular folks have been asking about A.I. Knowing what this technology can do is imperative to understanding how it will impact our lives. Congress needs to have representatives that understand this technology to provide oversight and legislate for the protection of Americans. The window to get ahead of this technology is closing fast. If we don't act now, it will soon be too late! Presidential Action Reclassifying NASAThe Trump Administration is waging war against the scientific community. From gutting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to freezing research funding through the National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institutes of Health (NIH), they are making it abundantly clear that science for public good is not in their administration's interests. This position was further cemented with a recent presidential action that stripped NASA and specific subdivisions of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of their scientific status, reclassifying them as organizations whose primary function is "intelligence, counterintelligence, investigative, or national security work." This new classification prohibits NASA and the other named agencies from participating in any federal employee union or collective bargaining activities. In other words, NASA, the beloved science and space agency, which has captured the hearts and imaginations of America and the world for decades, will now be lumped in with military and intelligence organizations such as the Army, Navy, and Secret Service, while simultaneously busting any current or future unions that the workforce may organize to protect their work and interests. Let us be clear: NASA is, and has always been, a civilian science organization. It is staffed by civilians, and it operates on behalf of the American people. It is not organized under the Department of Defense and was intentionally established as its own sovereign agency. This move remakes the agency in the image of the US Space Force, claiming the discoveries and innovations of the NASA workforce not for the good "of all mankind", but weaponizing them for the benefit of an already bloated "department of war". Congress cannot let these actions stand! Trump's continued overreach must be curtailed, and Congress must do its job to act as a check on this administration! Karl for Congress Campaign Launch
