Thank you for your service, Mr Evans

June 30, 2025

Hello supporters and friends!

Today, Representative Dwight Evans, the incumbent in the House of Representatives for Pennsylvania's 3rd congressional district, officially announced that he would not seek re-election in 2026. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Mr. Evans for over 40 years of service to the people of Philadelphia, and the country. To serve is to sacrifice, and Dwight has given more to our community than we could ever have asked for. Thank you!

In light of this news, in 2026 there will be an open seat for Pennsylvania's 3rd congressional district. In all likelihood two things will happen in short order:

1) Many state and/or city hall officials will declare their intent to run for the seat

2) The Democratic Party of Philadelphia will, at some point in the near future, declare their preferred candidate for the May 19 primary

What you will soon hear is a series of statements and speeches from career politicians saying how they're not the same as all the other career politicians. What will actually happen (if they enter office) is the party line will be followed, and their first priority will be the continued entrenchment of power for those at the top.

I want to present a different choice. I'm a progressive with experience extending over 20 years as a technologist, consultant, educator, and scientist. I've worked with schools, governments, public companies, and nonprofits to build solutions, write policies, push boundaries in research, and educate our children. I have spent decades contributing to, integrating, and helping communities understand technologies that are now ubiquitous in their lives; from desktop computers and high-speed internet in the early 2000s, to mobile phones and artificial intelligence systems today. My current work and research extends into spaces where technology integrates into the lives of regular people and involves making sure we consider issues relating to equal access and protection of rights, while facilitating continued development.

As we enter a world where AI, self-driving cars, cryptocurrencies, and other cutting-edge technologies will be in all areas of our lives, career politicians will not know how to effectively legislate to protect citizens. Instead they'll take steps to protect their incumbency, amass power and influence, and wield it to the benefit of themselves and party elites, while neglecting their core responsibilities and allow big-tech to police themselves. We've seen this before. It has happened over and over for almost 30 years. In 2026 we will have a choice of politics as usual, or taking the first steps in having a Congress that is capable of understanding and operating in a new world. I believe I can be that change, and I intend to spend the time between now and May 2026 showing you why.

I want you on board to bring about this change. I'd like to ask you to share news about my candidacy with a friend or family member (or two...or more!). My ask is a simple one because despite what career politicians, donors, and the party bosses would like everyone to believe, it is ultimately the voters casting their ballots that have all the power. If our grassroots campaign can reach critical mass, then we can have a candidate that is able to step up to the legislative challenges that lie ahead, while owing nothing to the party machine or donor class who want to keep their grasp on the reins of power.

Share this message, social media accounts, or website address (https://karlforcongress.us) with those that want to see change. If we do, then it just might become self-fulfilling. I will be the candidate that helps make sure it isn't politics as usual!
