"The World Is In Peril"February 12, 2026
Many researchers are quitting their positions at top AI companies and warning that this technology is growing too fast and with no safeguards. It's also been reported that OpenAI has reassigned members of its "Mission Alignment" team that was charged with ensuring AI benefits all of humanity. This shows a shifting focus to commercialization over safety. We are heading down a road where trillion-dollar companies are pumping obscene amounts of cash into development while only paying lip service to safety concerns. This should be setting off alarm bells in Congress, but instead they get bogged down in surface-level debates about deepfakes while ignoring the structural risks of AI. Not only have they been silent on the issues that matter, AI companies have ramped up donations to the tune of $100 million to candidates they deem AI-friendly. This will ensure Congress continues to sidestep regulating AI. Our only bulwark against the tech oligarchs is being bought and paid for! This is why I'm running for Congress. We desperately need leadership to deal with emerging and advanced technologies. There is no aspect of society that this technology will not touch, and as a scientist, I know that any policy debate that ignores AI's role is political malpractice. Congress cannot continue to have a hands-off approach as the most transformative technology in human history establishes itself in the substrate of society, driven by companies that see our safety as secondary. Our window is closing to ensure this technology is properly regulated. We need leadership that understands the tech, not just the campaign checks. |
