Things You Might Have MissedFebruary 16, 2026
While ICE, arrested journalists, and the Epstein Files have rightfully dominated recent headlines, there has been a lot of other news worth our attention as well. For instance, the New York Times Editorial Board reported that Donald Trump has enriched himself to the tune of 1.4 billion dollars since retaking office. The lion's share of that newfound wealth came from his cryptocurrency operations, including the sale of a 49% stake of his crypto company, World Liberty Financial, to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the National Security Advisor of the United Arab Emirates. Shortly after taking office, Trump lifted a ban on the sale of AI chips to the UAE. I'm not sure how much clearer a bribe can be! The Trump family has been enriching itself through crypto for the past 2 years and Congress, as usual, has been slow to act. On the AI front, it is worth taking note of the AI researcher that resigned from Anthropic to move to the UK and "become invisible." This is one of many resignations in recent weeks from top AI firms with many expressing displeasure or distrust in their companies, their roles, or their overall view of where AI is headed. Let me reiterate a point I made a few months ago: this is a break-glass moment! We need Congress to begin regulating this technology and ensuring guardrails are put in place, or we will soon get to a point of no return. It's Petition SeasonIt's time for us to get petitions signed and submitted to Harrisburg to be on the ballot in May. If you are: 1) a registered Democrat, and 2) a Pennsylvania resident, and would like to help us cross the finish line by circulating a petition to your friends, family, and neighbors, let us know. We'll be in touch with all the information and resources you need. Closing Out Black History Month in StyleOn February 28th at 6 PM we'll be hosting a Black History Month Karaoke and Games event at the Church of the Annunciation in West Mount Airy!
